Is the YouTube monetization bar changing in 2027?
Yes, for new channels. From February 1, 2027, new applicants will need 1,000 subscribers plus 8,000 watch hours in the last 365 days, or 20 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. Channels already in the Partner Program are not affected.
That comes from YouTube's own 2027 Partner Program update, which doubles the watch-hours bar and the Shorts bar for anyone who applies after that date. The checker above shows both bars side by side, so you can see which one your channel is racing.
The fastest way past both is to start inside the program. A monetized YouTube channel is already in, so it keeps today's terms, and it comes with full credentials within 24 hours.
